Childish Gambino Exposes What Goes On Under His Covers, in the Video for “Freaks and Geeks”
Multi-hyphenate, Emmy Award winning-writer-actor-rapper-comedian, Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, uses his newest track, “Freaks and Geeks,” to extol his supremacy in the bedroom. Well-tread territory for rappers, but most rappers don’t attempt to reference such divergent subjects as poet e.e. cummings, indie band Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, and Eggo waffles.
In the video, directed by Dan Eckman, Glover raps straight to camera in a bare sound stage. The set up could be dull, but Glover as Childish Gambino has charisma and swagger to spare.
Donald Glover hits the road for the IAMDONALD tour in April, to support a yet-untitled EP, out March 8th. The tour features Glover’s comedy in addition to rapping, or as he puts it: “STANDUP PLUS MUSIC EQUALS DOPENESS.”
