Found Sound Collector, Junk Culture, Sets U.S. Tour Dates with Girl Talk

Junk Culture is the brainchild of Oxford, Mississippi native Deepak Mantena, who fuses found sounds with high-energy dance rhythms and Animal Collective-influenced pop melodies.  On the title track off his newest release, Summer Friends, Mantena splashes brash vocals over electronic swirls and layers.

It seems fitting that Mantena’s Junk Culture, with its found sound influences, has secured a home at Illegal Art, the same record label as mash-up master Gregg Gillis, of Girl Talk fame.  The label mates will join forces in early 2011 for a U.S. tour, full tour dates can be found below. You can also stream/download the single “Summer Friends,” for FREE

Panda Bear Readies the Release of “Tomboy,” the First Single and Title Track Off New Solo Album

Noah Lennox, one of the founding members of Animal Collective, and who goes by the moniker Panda Bear, is set to drop the new single Tomboy, on July 13th.  It is the first in a series of limited edition 7” singles, set to release on different labels, all leading up to the release of full-length album Tomboy, dropping in September.  This record follows up Lennox’s third studio LP, the highly acclaimed Person Pitch (2007).  To fill out his summer schedule, Lennox is playing select festival dates, but unfortunately West Coast fans are out of luck this round.
