Cold War Kids Celebrate the Release of “Mine is Yours” LP with Amoeba In-store, TODAY!

Long Beach quartet, Cold War Kids, take the Amoeba stage tonight in celebration of the release of their third full-length album, Mine is Yours. The album was recorded over three months in Nashville and Los Angeles with producer Jacquire King, who includes Tom Waits, Kings of Leon, and Modest Mouse among his long list of collaborators.

Mine is Yours is a strong departure from Cold War Kid’s previous albums Robbers & Cowards and Loyalty To Loyalty, where lyrics explored narratives from various characters’ perspectives.  This time around, lead singer Nathan Willett mined new material from personal experiences.  “I was reading things and thinking about Michael Stipe and R.E.M, and their whole evolution,” the frontman tells Rolling Stone.  “They started with the kind of lyrics that were more or less kind of just good-sounding words, and then kind of moved into really revealing something about themselves — that was my goal.”

Be witness to Cold War Kids getting up close and personal, TONIGHT!

Cold War Kids perform at 6 PM, TONIGHT, at Amoeba Hollywood.  All Amoeba shows are FREE and all ages.  For more information, check out Amoeba’s Live Shows Page.

Cold War Kids‘ third full-length album Mine is Yours releases TODAY, January 25th via Downtown Records.  The full album is currently available for streaming via Cold War Kids’ MySpace Page.

Long Beach Locals We Barbarians Take the Roundabout Way Back Home

The Long Beach trio We Barbarians may be playing in their own backyard, supporting Passion Pit on their So Cal dates, but they’ve come a long way.

College friends of fellow Long Beach natives, Cold War Kids, David Quon (lead vocals, guitar), Derek Vanheule (bass, vocals), and Nathan Warkentin (drums, vocals), started playing together in 2007, and after a short interim with the band, The Colour, struck out on their own as We Barbarians, touring the country with such acts as Local Natives, Tokyo Police Club, The Morning Benders, Les Savy Fav, and of course, Cold War Kids.

Timbre Tantrum was privileged enough to see We Barbarians hit the stage with Cold War Kids at an intimate Big Sur show back in November (check out Timbre Tantrum’s photos from their Big Sur show at Fernwood Resort), and their stage presence was electric.  Now with an EP (2007’s In the Doldrums) and LP (2009’s There’s This There’s That) under their belt, We Barbarians are prepping a new EP, slated for an early 2011 release.  Hear a taste of their heavier anthemic sound on their newest track, Headspace, below.

Timbre Tantrum was lucky enough to catch the last show of the tour at Fernwood Resort in Big Sur, California.  Check out images from the intimate concert, with Cold War Kids and openers/fellow Long Beach residents, We Barbarians, below.
