Dengue Fever, the L.A.-based sextet who specialize in an exotic blend of Cambodian rock, Afro grooves, and surf and garage psychedelia, step back into the spotlight with the release of their fourth studio album, Cannibal Courtship, in April.

The record, Dengue Fever’s follow up to 2008’s Venus on Earth, serves up 11 new tracks and features lead vocalist, Chhom Nimol, singing in both English and Khmer (Cambodian).  Guest vocalists, The Living Sisters, lend beautiful backing harmonies to many of the tracks.  “Before it was partly Cambodian and partly indie rock,” explains Dengue Fever bassist Senon Gaius Williams of the band’s evolution. “Now it’s 100 percent both.”

The cross-cultural collective sets out on a U.S. tour in support of Cannibal Courtship this Spring, beginning with a record release show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles.  Check out tour dates, plus stream / download Dengue Fever’s new single, “Cement Slippers,” below.

Los Angeles-based Dengue Fever brings their unique combination of 60’s-era Cambodian pop and psychedelic rock to the Grand Performances main stage tomorrow night (8/13/10).  The six-member group’s repertoire includes covers of Cambodian pop classics and original material, while lead singer Chhom Nimol brings the lyrics to life in both Khmer and English.  Take a night off from the hipster-laden L.A. indie rock scene and let Dengue Fever transport you across the world and back in time.

Dengue Fever supports Mali’s Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba in a concert at the outdoor Grand Performances’ stage at California Plaza.  The show begins at 8 PM, and is FREE and all ages.  For more information of the performance, visit the Official Grand Performances Website.
