An Origami Vinyl In-store Makes Headlines, Plus No Joy, La Sera, and Lower Dens Share a Crowded In-store Stage, SATURDAY

No Joy

Tour mates No Joy, La Sera, and Lower Dens play a packed in-store at Echo Park’s Origami Vinyl Record Store, this Saturday at 7 PM.

The in-store shows at Origami Vinyl most recently made headlines by being the first and last in-store performance by Jónsi, which occured on October 17th.  Following the show, Jónsi promptly canceled all other previously scheduled in-stores, which were set to take place in five additional cities, including Austin and Chicago.

Jónsi’s management team took the blame for the cancellations, describing Jónsi’s view of the first and only show at Origami Vinyl as, “Arguably [it was] the most uncomfortable experience of his ten years in the public eye.” Wow, strong words!  We have video of two of the songs below, courtesy of Origami Vinyl.  We personally think the intimate stripped-down performances are riveting.  What do you think?

Be sure to check out No Joy, La Sera, and Lower Dens on Saturday, November 6th at 7:00 PM at Origami Vinyl.

The show is FREE and all ages.  Early arrival is strongly suggested, because as seen in the above videos, the space gets packed like sardines – FAST.

Jónsi – “Go” Review

Go is the brightest and most exuberant work yet from Sigur Ros front man Jón “Jónsi” Þór Birgisson.  If you have previously stayed clear of Sigur Ros’ work because of its somber and atmospheric leanings, please cleanse your pallet with the fully realized vision and accessibility of Go.  The album is mostly sung in English instead of the vocalist’s go-to hybrid language of Hopelandic, but it remains that the true meaning and tone of the songs are conveyed through Jónsi’s expressive falsetto.
