Kanye West Abandons Star Power for Strobe and Neon in “All of the Lights” Video

It’s here.  The video for star-studded standout single from Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, “All of the Lights,” is finally here.  And while the Hype Williams-directed joint does include a pair of hot guest stars (Kid Cudi and Rihanna, in a barely-there bandage top), the rest of the track’s featured performers including appearances by John Legend, The-Dream, Elly Jackson, Alicia Keys, Fergie, and Elton John, are reduced to a roll-call listing at the end of the video.  Hell, Fergie’s rap verse is cut from the video entirely.

What went wrong here?  Scheduling conflicts, budget factors, both?  For a video that had all the promise of making its single a knock-down drag-out anthem, it leaves something to be desired.  Instead of a powerhouse gathering of pop music royalty, we got lyric title cards and a strobe-induced seizure of neon.  High expectations – dashed.

What’s your take?  Watch Kanye West’s “All of the Lights” video, below.

Kanye West‘s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is available now from Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam Records.

Kid Cudi Proves His “Mojo So Dope” in His Newest Music Video

In the clip for his newest single, Mojo So Dope, off of Man on the Moon 2: The Legend Of Mr. Ranger, Scott Mescudi, a.k.a. Kid Cudi, gives us a peek into the day-to-day workings of his high-profile lifestyle.  The self-professed “lonely stoner” is seen here in his natural habitat: surrounded by thousands of adoring fans onstage, in the company of various celebrities, and smoking blunt after blunt by himself.  In contrast to Mescudi’s general air of melancholy, the video reveals a surprisingly light hearted Kid.

Kid Cudi‘s sophomore album Man on the Moon 2: The Legend Of Mr. Ranger, is available now from G.O.O.D. Music / Universal Motown Records.
