Last week, 20-year-old Baltimore rapper and M.I.A. protégé, Rye Rye, released an 18-track DJ Sega-produced mixtape entitled, RYEot PowRR.

The mix is filled with high octane club bangers and schizophrenic remixes including Rye Rye’s take on Ke$ha’s “We R Who We R,” Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair,” and Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.”  The mixtape is hopefully a prelude to the release of Rye Rye’s much-delayed debut album, Go!  Pop!  Bang!, currently set for a spring release on M.I.A.’s N.E.E.T Recordings.

M.I.A. makes good on her promise to return to the City of Angels after HARD L.A. was abruptly canceled in July.  Just five days before the event on July 17^th, HARD L.A. was canceled, in part due to lackluster ticket sales and heightened security scrutiny in the wake of a teen’s death at Electric Daisy Carnival only a month prior.

In addition to her previously scheduled show at the Fox Theater in Oakland on Tuesday, October 12^th, M.I.A. has added an engagement at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles, Thursday, October 14^th.  N.E.E.T label-mate Rye Rye will open for Maya at both venues.

Tickets for the newly added Mayan Theater show go on sale to the public Saturday, September 18^th at 10 AM PST from Ticketmaster.  A Goldenvoice pre-sale begins Friday, September 17^th at 10 AM PST.

On the track Hussel from 2007’s Kala, M.I.A. declared, “I hate money ‘cause it makes me numb.”  But just three years later, she’s humming a different tune.  On the track Born Free off of M.I.A.’s newest album /\/\/\Y/\, out today, she states, “ I don’t want to talk about money, ‘cause I got it.”  In fact, Maya Arulpragasam would prefer that you forget that she has changed at all in the last few years.
