The Black Keys Get Back to Basics in the Video for “Too Afraid to Love You”

This week, blues brothers, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, gussy themselves up for Sunday’s live presentation of The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, where The Keys are nominated for four of the night’s trophies including Best Alternative Music Album, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, and Best Rock Instrumental Performance, plus, an additional non-musical nod for Best Recording Package.  But on their just released video for “Too Afraid to Love You,” they drop all pomp and circumstance of awards season.

The video for “Too Afraid to Love You,” features the duo recording the track at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where much of their Grammy-nominated album, Brothers, was originally recorded in 2009.  No fuss, no muss, just some genuine blues-tinged rock.

The Black Keys’ Grammy-nominated album, Brothers is available now from Nonesuch Records.

This is a Timbre Tantrum Review of The Black Keys’ Sixth Studio Album “Brothers”

“Palm trees, flat-broke disease, and L.A. has got me on my knees, I am the bluest of blues, everyday a different way to lose,” Dan Auerbach crows on the track, The Go Getter. It could be an excerpt from our personal diary, but the downtrodden Southland musings are off of The Black Keys’ sixth studio album Brothers, which drops tomorrow, May 18th. The entire record is filled with similar world-weariness that speaks from the heart, and comes from The Black Keys’ duo, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, who have genuinely walked the walk instead of just talking the talk.
