Summer comes early this year with the release of new music from beach and boardwalk daydreamers, The Drums.  The band’s newest single “The New World” stays true to The Drums’ signature bright and sunny surf hooks, but this time around there’s a good cause behind their jukebox melodies of surf and sun.  All proceeds from the track will benefit the victims of the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, plus fans in Japan can download the song for free.

Coming straight off of their co-headlining show with Surfer Blood at The Music Box last night, The Drums hit the Amoeba Hollywood stage to share their particular blend of ‘50’s bubblegum pop and ‘80’s synth-punk with the record store masses.

The Drums’ North American co-headlining tour comes on the heels of the announcement that guitarist Adam Kessler left the band.  On September 16^th, The Drums announced the departure on their Official Website: “There have been some questions as to recent events and we are sorry to say that Adam has left The Drums. Jonny, Jacob and Connor are devastated and are keeping to themselves and with friends at this time. The band is currently on the road in America. Thank you for all of the support, it means a lot.”  The Drums have been playing their U.S. dates with stand-in guitarist and long-time friend of the band, Tom Haslow.

The Drums are a Brooklyn-based four-piece indie pop band, who’s penchant for The Beach Boy’s-style surf pop and catchy hooks has us grateful that summer is just around the corner.  The two founding members, Jonathan Pierce on vocals and Jacob Graham on guitar, first met at summer camp as children, and that beachy/breezy feeling pervades the entire track listing of their seven track EP, Summertime!
