Check Yo Ponytail 2 Hosts New Voices of Hip-Hop: Yelawolf, Das Racist, and More; TONIGHT!

Yelawolf, born Michael Wayne Atha, is an anomaly.  Tracing his cultural heritage from a combination of White and Cherokee decent, Atha bounced from state to Southern state during a rootless childhood, finally finding a sense of home in the worlds of skateboarding and Hip-Hop culture.

Atha adopted a stage name that referenced his Native American decent, and with it, started recording mix-tapes, amassing fans, and bringing together a top-notch management team.  Yelawolf caught his first big break when he was signed to Columbia Records in 2007, but left shortly thereafter due to label restructuring.

Now, with his newest mixtape, Trunk Muzik 0-60, released November 2010, in stores, a debut full-length album set to drop in March, and news that he recently inked a deal with Eminem’s Shady Records, Yelawolf is poised to leave his unique mark on the Hip-Hop world.

Tonight’s Check Yo Ponytail 2 also features sets from Craze, Das Racist, The 87 Stick Up Kids, Freak City, and Franki Chan.

Check Yo Ponytail 2 with Yelawolf is TONIGHT at The Echoplex in Los Angeles.  Tickets are $20.  Doors at 9 PM, 18+ welcome.

Screaming Females Bring Their Raucous Live Show to The Echoplex, TONIGHT

Screaming Females are a trio of New Brunswick, New Jersey-bred punk rockers led by petite guitar shredder and vocalist, Marissa Paternoster.  In the four years since the band formed in 2005, Screaming Females played over 300 self-booked shows at non-traditional venues, slept on floors around the country, and self-released their first two albums, before finally scoring their first big break.

In 2009, Screaming Females dropped their critically acclaimed third album, Power Move, with the help of Don Giovanni Records, and toured the LP relentlessly, landing opening spots for the Dead Weather, Arctic Monkeys, Dinosaur Jr., and Throwing Muses.  The Fall of 2010 saw the release of their newest full-length, Castle Talk, which brought a wider audience to their raw riot-grrl rock sensibilities and their raucous live shows, featuring Paternoster’s famed guitar heroics.

Screaming Females bring their rowdy live show to L.A’s Echoplex, TONIGHT, with openers La Sera, Audacity, Love Bad Things, and DJ Keith Morris.  All ages / Doors at 8 PM.  Tickets are $8 advanced/ $10 the day of; TICKET LINK.

Screaming Females‘ newest album, Castle Talk, is available now from Don Giovanni Records.

Swedish Electro-Pop Group, Little Dragon, Breathe Fire into a Sold Out Two-Night Stand in L.A., This Weekend

Swedish electro-synth pop ensemble, Little Dragon, bring a unique slice of Gothenburg to Los Angeles for a two-night stand.  Little Dragon, led by charismatic Japanese-Swedish vocalist, Yukimi Nagano, molds its sound from influences as diverse as electronica, pop, and R&B.

The quartet begins their weekend by kicking off the new season of First Fridays in the Diorama Hall at the Natural History Museum.  If you haven’t hit up a First Friday show before, we highly recommend it for the unique venue alone.  On Saturday, Little Dragon bring the heat for a packed house at the Echoplex.

Pre-sale tickets for both events are sold out, but a limited number of tickets will be available at the door for both shows.  Click the following links to First Fridays and The Echoplex for more details about each show.

The 4th Annual Christmas Sweater Festival Fills the Echoplex with Garish Glee, This Saturday

This Saturday marks the return of the 4th Annual Christmas Sweater Festival benefit concert at the Echoplex in Los Angeles.  This year-end tradition is curated by Timbre Tantrum favorites, The Deadly Syndrome, and features a variety of up-and-coming bands from the L.A. music scene, including Polls, The Pity Party, Signals, and Rabbits Rabbits Rabbits.  100% of the net proceeds of this year’s event will benefit Teen Impact, a program at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles for teens and young adults that have or once had cancer or a blood disease.

As usual, all patrons are encouraged to wear the tackiest, ugliest, most bedazzled Christmas sweaters available.  Now tell me, who wouldn’t want to be a part of this annual holiday spectacle?

The 4th Annual Christmas Sweater Festival takes place on Saturday, December 11th at The Echoplex in Los Angeles.  Doors open at 7:30 PM, and the show is all ages.
